The HARTT Partnered with the University of the West Indies Linguistics Department and the Living Water Community to assist Migrants and Refugees in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Caribbean is facing a growing influx of refugees with Belize and Trinidad and Tobago in particular being the most refugee receiving countries in the English speaking Caribbean. Current records show that over 6000 asylum seekers and refugees in Trinidad and Tobago, compared with only 20 persons in 2013. In this context the department of Modern Languages and Linguistics of The UWI and the Office of Community Engagement have undertaken a partnership with the Living Water Community and the Humanitarian Association of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (HARTT) for the integration of refugees through a project in Teaching English for Refugees.
